Pritzker-prize winning architect Jean Nouvel designed the Louvre Abu Dhabi as a museum city in the sea. Made up of 55 individual buildings and 23 galleries this supersized structure and design-marvel houses some of the most important art in history.

SPEC's partner Robertson Thermovent was trusted to design, manufacture, install and commission the complete smoke management system for all occupied spaces within the museum.

The Dubai Opera is a multi-functioning performing arts centre offering 2000 square metres of space for music, theatre, as well as exhibitions and galas.

The iconic dhow-shaped building of Dubai Opera is a masterpiece of contemporary design and a stylish tribute to Dubai’s maritime history.

SPEC's partner Robertson Thermovent was tasked to design, manufacture and install the smoke management system for the occupied spaces of the building.

A bespoke project with a challenge – to design very large trapezoidal smoke vents that opened on a 45-degree angle enabling fresh air intake for the forced smoke ventilation system. The cladding sheets also needed to match the rest of the building envelope.

SPEC's partner Robertson Thermovent successfully manufactured, installed, tested and commissioned smoke vents with titanium cladding sheets to complement the architectural image of the building. The weight of the titanium sheets had to be carried by custom designed gas struts each powered to 3000N at multiple positions on the hinged ventilator.

The sand trap louvres on this project were designed to be single piece extrusions extending to full height (6 metres) and were hinged using stainless steel cylinder hinges to allow the 2.5MVA transformers within to be removed in the event of replacement or maintenance. The custom designed and manufactured louvre elements were anodised to meet project specifications.
